Vegas mass shooter’s Filipina girlfriend may still face charges

LAS VEGAS — Defense attorneys Tuesday wondered if the Las Vegas Strip mass shooter’s Filipina girlfriend was unfairly being singled out after police lawyers claimed in court that criminal charges may still be in the case.

Las Vegas attorney Craig Drummond described the police statement as “bold when the only person whose name or inference has been put in the news is [the mass killer’s] girlfriend,” the Las Vegas Review Journal reported. https://www.reviewjournal.com/crime/shootings/lawyers-claim-puts-attention-on-las-vegas-shooters-girlfriend/

Marilou Danley was initially considered a person of interest after her boyfriend, Stephen Paddock, opened fire on a concert on October 1 from his 32nd-floor Mandalay Bay room, killing 58 people before fatally shooting himself. But she agreed to cooperate and has publicly said she had no knowledge of his bloody plans.

Drummond said authorities may also be looking

Charles Manson’s grandson ramps up fight for serial killer’s remains, estate

The grandson of Charles Manson is asking a Los Angeles Superior Court judge to grant him the right to claim the mass murderer’s body and his estate.

Jason Freeman, the son of the late Charles Manson Jr. and the grandson of Manson and his first wife, Rosalie Willis, filed documents with the probate court Friday, seeking control of his grandfather’s estate, his attorney Alan Davis said.

Freeman’s claim comes as a legal battle begins over what to do with Manson’s remains and who has rights to what he’s left behind.

Freeman’s lineage is disputed by Matt Lentz, a Los Angeles musician known as Matthew Roberts, who says he is the killer’s son and has a will, allegedly signed in 2017 by Manson, according to The Associated Press. Lentz wants a DNA test of Manson’s remains, which are still being held by the Kern County sheriff-coroner, to prove he is kin and Freeman is not.

Meanwhile, Michael Channels,

Letters: Comparing Trump with Hitler over the top

You expect to see it on social media or hear it on talk radio, talk TV. But now your newspaper has stooped low enough to become a party to it. I’m talking about your decision to print columnist Richard Cohen’s sky-is-falling likening of President Donald Trump’s rise to the White House to the rise of the Third Reich. And what’s really frightening is not the validity of the comparison, but the obvious pandering to anti-Trump sentiments by stoking absolutely unsupported fears that Trump represents Nazism’s triumphant rise from the ashes.

Charles Manson’s grandson renews effort to claim remains of mass murderer

The grandson of Charles Manson has filed court papers seeking to obtain the remains of the late mass murderer from the Kern County coroner.

Jason L. Freeman’s Los Angeles Superior Court petition was filed Friday, four days after Judge David Cowan ruled that the appropriate court papers seeking release of Manson’s remains had not been filed. A hearing on Freeman’s petition is scheduled for Jan. 26 before Judge Clifford Klein.

“As kin I am entitled to the remains of the decedent,” Freeman stated in court papers.

Klein also will decide whether the Manson probate proceedings should take place in Los Angeles County, where Manson once lived; in Kings County, where he was imprisoned before his death; or in Kern County, where he died.

Newsrooms see crisis in Trump’s salty language

Wow! You would have thought President Trump pushed the nuclear “button” and the end is near! Not quite, but to read and listen to our nation’s press, Trump’s use of some salty language is more of a world crisis than any threat from North Korea!

It’s interesting to learn the newsrooms across the country strongly resemble a church confessional with holier values and language never off color.

Now I understand why reporters feel the need to report “their interpretation” of the what’s good for citizens to hear and not the news as it is. We may hear a word we’ve never heard before or, even more concerning, Americans might interpret the day’s news for themselves and conclude what’s offensive and what’s not.

Even more frightening is the ever-so-slight chance some news consumers will determine Trump has and does a few things right.
