Australian accused of plotting New Year’s Eve mass shooting

CANBERRA, Australia — Australian police have arrested a man accused of planning a mass shooting for New Year’s Eve in a crowded Melbourne square, officials said Tuesday.

Ali Ali, a 20-year-old Australian-born citizen with Somali parents, was trying to obtain an automatic rifle to attack the downtown Federation Square in Australia’s second-largest city, Victoria State Police Deputy Commissioner Shane Patton said.

Thousands of revelers pack the square each year on New Year’s Eve.

Ali downloaded instructions from an al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula website on how to launch a terrorist attack and how to use guns, Patton said.

Patton described Ali as “a person who’s expressed an intention to try and kill as many people as he could through shooting them.”

He said authorities have eliminated the threat of the attack, saying “the risk

Las Vegas mass shooting victims accused of ‘acting’ by conspiracy theorists

Survivors of the Las Vegas shooting earlier this month have been accused of “acting” by online trolls and conspiracy theorists.

Stephen Paddock shot himself in October after killing more than 50 people and injuring nearly 500 who were watching a country music concert, overlooked by his hotel window.

One victim told CTV News that his social media has been inundated with comments from people who say the shooting was a hoax, and he was forced to delete his accounts.

Braden Matejka and his girlfriend tried to escape the festival when he was shot in the back of the head, but was not fatally wounded. He still cannot move his head and suffers pain.

He received thousands of messages like “You’re a lying piece of s*** and I hope someone truly shoots you in the head”.

Another victim, Sheldon Mark, who was shot twice on 1 October, was also targeted.

Surprise! Cops find Adolf Hitler speech in accused racist spree killer’s home

In searching the home of Kenneth Gleason, whom authorities suspect of killing two African-American men and shooting at the home of an African-American family, investigators found at least one speech by Nazi leader Adolf Hitler. After Gleason’s arrest last Sunday on drug charges, authorities had said, “there is a strong possibility [the killings] could be racially motivated.” Gleason was booked on two charges of first-degree murder.

At a press conference after Gleason’s arrest and booking, Interim Baton Rouge Police Chief Jonny Dunnam called the killings “brutal murders” and said that Gleason, “could have potentially created a [tear] in the fabric that holds this community together.” Racial tensions remain high in the city following the 2016 fatal police shooting of Alton Sterling. After someone reportedly called to complain

Fundraiser held for family of accused mass murderer | News | WKZO

KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) —  Kalamazoo is a remarkably forgiving and supportive community, traits that have been tested and demonstrated by the mass shooting, and the bicycle tragedy, and most recently when five teens died in a fiery crash in Comstock Township.

It was demonstrated again over the weekend when a fundraiser was held for the family of Jason Dalton, the suspected gunman in last year’s mass shooting.

Carol Dalton filed for divorce shortly after.   The event held at Comstock High included a silent auction and the sale of other goods.

The proceeds are intended to help his wife and two children get back on their feet.

Organizer Ashley Bilyk says Dalton’s family members are victims too, in their own way.

She has also organized and conducted a fundraiser for Abigail Kopf, one of Dalton’s victims.
