Fort Hood mass shooting survivor sees drastic changes after Hyperbaric Chamber

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — In November, 8 years after the attack, First Coast News interviewed a survivor of the Fort Hood mass shooting. Army Veteran Patrick Ziegler lost part of his brain on November 5th, 2009 when he was shot point blank multiple times at the military post.

In November, Zeigler tried out a Hyperbaric Chamber for the first time to treat a number of issues, like PTSD and Traumatic Brain Injury. After completing the 40 treatments he says he feels the difference mentally and physically.

Neither the V.A. nor insurance would cover the cost of the Hyperbaric Chamber. That’s where the nonprofit ‘The 22 Project’ stepped in to help, footing the bill and taking high definition before and after scans to compare progress.

Changes At FLL Highlight One Year Anniversary Of Mass Shooting …

Our shallow #YOLO philosophy is why nothing changes after a mass shooting

It is, amid all of it, what stuck with me, this little interview. From among the usual barrage of images, news clips, editorials and ricocheted soundbites that follow mass shootings, that macabre niche of news entertainment, the Goodman interview is what caught my thoughts. This old man with his vintage, sham-sage advice,  with his carpe diem and his #YOLO, with his damning decrees.

It stuck with me because Goodman’s advice belongs to that common nonsense that is also part of our problem, our philosophical, existential and even political problem as Americans. And the problem is our narcissistic shallowness and the consequent unwillingness to understand and to change.

Of course, there are more acute and symptomatic issues: gun reform, mental health and so on. These necessarily must be debated, better policies made and more programs offered. But there is something else that must be addressed. It’s harder to quantify, something almost spiritual underneath our poor debates

APA – Norwegian mass murderer Anders Breivik changes his name

Norwegian mass killer Anders Behring Breivik, who murdered 77 people in 2011, has officially changed his name to Fjotolf Hansen, his lawyer said on Friday.

Oeystein Storrvik declined to give Breivik’s reasons for adopting Hansen, one of Norway’s most common surnames, or the extremely rare Fjotolf, APA reports citing News Europe.

“He told me some reasons but I don’t want to talk about what he told me,” Storrvik told Reuters, confirming Norwegian media reports of the name change.

The anti-Muslim far-right extremist killed 77 people in Norway’s worst peacetime atrocity in July 2011. He killed eight with a bomb in Oslo and then gunned down 69, many of them teenagers, at a youth meeting of the then-ruling Labour Party.
