Vegas mass shooter’s Filipina girlfriend may still face charges

Mariou Danley and Stephen Paddock. INQUIRER FILE

LAS VEGAS — Defense attorneys Tuesday wondered if the Las Vegas Strip mass shooter’s Filipina girlfriend was unfairly being singled out after police lawyers claimed in court that criminal charges may still be in the case.

Las Vegas attorney Craig Drummond described the police statement as “bold when the only person whose name or inference has been put in the news is [the mass killer’s] girlfriend,” the Las Vegas Review Journal reported. https://www.reviewjournal.com/crime/shootings/lawyers-claim-puts-attention-on-las-vegas-shooters-girlfriend/

Marilou Danley was initially considered a person of interest after her boyfriend, Stephen Paddock, opened fire on a concert on October 1 from his 32nd-floor Mandalay Bay room, killing 58 people before fatally shooting himself. But she agreed to cooperate and has publicly said she had no knowledge of his bloody plans.

Drummond said authorities may also be looking

Charges possible in Las Vegas mass shooting, attorneys say – ABC …

Criminal charges may be filed in connection with the Las Vegas mass shooting that killed 58 people and injured hundreds more, attorneys for the Las Vegas Metro Police Department said in court on Tuesday.

The hearing, which took place in a Clark County District Court, was held to determine whether the media should be given access to more search warrant documents involving the shooting.

Police department attorney Nicholas Crosby told Clark County District Judge Elissa Cadish that while no one may be indicted for the actual murders, “There are charges being investigated.”

The police department has been arguing against the release of the documents due to the ongoing investigation, but lawyers for the media said that because shooter Stephen Paddock is dead, there is no prosecution pending against him, so the documents are no longer sensitive.

Judge rejects dismissing charges in case where man claims Sheriff’s Department and Santa Ana PD destroyed evidence

SANTA ANA – A judge denied a request on Wednesday to dismiss charges against a man accused of shooting at officers during a police chase, ruling that there was insufficient evidence to prove that law enforcement conspired to destroy video and audio recordings.

Jimmy Hoang Truong, 30, faces multiple felony counts including attempted murder on police officers and evading them during a pursuit and a 90-minute standoff in Santa Ana in November 2015. No one was injured.

Truong’s attorney, Mark Hover, insisted that Truong never fired at officers and that law enforcement destroyed evidence from helicopter videos and dispatch recordings.

The prosecution has maintained that no video footage was destroyed, and that there is no evidence that police acted in bad faith.

If convicted, Truong, who has a lengthy criminal record, faces more than 80 years to life in prison.

After a three-week hearing, Orange County Superior Court Judge Thomas Goethals sided with prosecutors, stating

Charges dismissed against 2 teens involved in "mass shooting plan"

A judge has dismissed charges against two of the three teens accused of planning a mass shooting at Santa Fe High School last week.

Those charges were dismissed without prejudice, which means the state can still refile charges down the road.

The third teen, Aaron Encinias, was deemed too dangerous to be in public and will be held at a youth detention center for the time being. He faces charges of engaging in terrorist activity.

According to court documents, students found two notes threatening to carry out a school shooting on campus last week. Those students took the notes to school officials, who contacted Santa Fe police.

Police said one note mapped out an elaborate plan to kill students and two teachers. The note said things like, “I love being a school shooter. It’s awesome,” and boasted about getting a “high kill count.”

Another note included a “kill” and “don’t
