Fundraiser held for family of accused mass murderer

KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) —  Kalamazoo is a remarkably forgiving and supportive community, traits that have been tested and demonstrated by the mass shooting, and the bicycle tragedy, and most recently when five teens died in a fiery crash in Comstock Township.

It was demonstrated again over the weekend when a fundraiser was held for the family of Jason Dalton, the suspected gunman in last year’s mass shooting.

Carol Dalton filed for divorce shortly after.   The event held at Comstock High included a silent auction and the sale of other goods.

The proceeds are intended to help his wife and two children get back on their feet.

Organizer Ashley Bilyk says Dalton’s family members are victims too, in their own way.

She has also organized and conducted a fundraiser for Abigail Kopf, one of Dalton’s victims.

Mother of four killed in North Memphis mass shooting, family says she was an innocent bystander

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — WREG is learning more about a mother killed in a mass shooting in a North Memphis neighborhood.

Family members said Latonia Henneghan was an innocent bystander standing outside her house with her baby when she was shot. She later died in the hospital.

“I got a call from my mother,” said Darius Bruse, Henneghan’s cousin.

Bruse said his mother told him a shooting happened on Morehead where his cousin lived.

“I didn’t know she was the one that got shot. I just knew there was a fight going on,” he said. “She had nothing to do with it. She was an innocent bystander. They killed my cousin. They killed my cousin.”

Henneghan was just 35 years old. She was a mother of four. Her youngest is 7 months old.

“A good mom. Took care of her kids. Went to work. Stayed out of trouble,” said Bruse.

Five others, including a 17-year-old, were also shot

Memorial to mass murderer Alan Hawe WILL go ahead despite distress to victims’ family

A memorial service for mass murderer Alan Hawe WILL go ahead tonight at the church where his victims are buried, despite the distress it is likely to cause.

Hawe slaughtered his wife, Clodagh and their three sons, Liam, Niall and Ryan a year ago.

He was buried with them in the grounds of St Mary’s Church, Castlerahan in Co Cavan, until he was finally exhumed in May following a series of requests from Clodagh’s heartbroken mother, Mary Coll, and sister, Jacqueline Connolly.

But tonight Hawe’s parents and other family members are expected to travel from Kilkenny for a service for the killer.

Fr Felim Kelly, who parishioners believe will celebrate the Mass, was a close friend of Hawe.

In the aftermath of the massacre, curate Fr Kelly helped arrange to have him buried with his helpless victims,

A family barbecue, kids with hot dogs and hamburgers, then ‘bullets came our way’

Alfred Mitchell Jr. brought most of the meat to a barbecue with extended family and neighbors outside a Bronzeville housing complex late Tuesday.

The 28-year-old was facing off in a friendly grilling competition with his cousins. When they finished, kids ran off to play with hot dogs and hamburgers in their hands.

Mitchell, known as AJ, was sitting on a brick fence with a younger cousin just before 10:40 p.m. when several gunmen opened fire from the corner of South Michigan Avenue and East 37th Place, according to police and family.

Mitchell was hit in the back and died.  Six other people, 21 to 46, were wounded but are expected to survive.  Five of them are women.

Family, friends mark 1 year Club Blu mass shooting anniversary …

FORT MYERS, Fla. Dozens circled around the former Club Blu on Monday to mark the one year anniversary of a shooting outside the facility that killed two teens and injured 18 others.

Stef’an Strawder, 18, and Sean Archilles, 14, were gunned down outside the Evans Avenue building following a teen party.

“We’re keeping the legacy going,” said Keith White, Strawder’s uncle. “This is another step, another way for my sister to have a little closure, keeping him in heart and mind, so this is important. The grieving process is forever.”

No arrests have been made in the shooting.

“We will not rest until we find individuals that are responsible for this,” said Fort Myers Police Chief Derrick Diggs.

Among those who were there Monday was Angela McClary, whose son was killed in 2014. She seeks to raise awareness for victims’ families through a local chapter of the nonprofit National Organization for the Parents of Murdered Children

Accused family killer calls for his own execution

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. –

Collier County’s most gruesome murder case soon come to a close.

Accused mass murderer, Mesac Damas, told a judge last month he wants to plead guilty and be executed.

“I would like to represent myself. I would like these two gentlemen to be removed from the case, and I would like to plead guilty now,” Damas said in the court hearing.

Damas is accused of slitting the throats of his wife, Guerline Damas, and the five children they shared.

On Friday, a judge has to decide if Damas is competent to represent himself and if he’ll accept his guilty plea.

If the judge accepts Damas guilty plea, Damas still has the opportunity to have a jury decide his sentence or he can have the judge sentence him.

“If the judge finds he is competent to make those

A family gathered for a gender reveal party. Then men burst in and began shooting.

Just outside of Cincinnati, in a long flat house, a family gathered Saturday to learn the sex of their newest member.

They learned it, the Cincinnati Enquirer reported; the baby was a boy. The family celebrated and stayed up late into the night in that home in Colerain Township — until someone came in from outside.

There were two gunmen dressed in black, the Associated Press reported. Or maybe colored hoodies, a woman would scream to a 911 dispatcher in the chaos afterward.

“They were acting sneaky,” said the woman, who was outside the house and audibly distressed, in the 911 call posted by WCPO. “Then they ran in the house and started shooting.”

“They shot all of us,” a man told a dispatcher from inside the house, just before midnight, as children screamed in the background.

The gunmen were gone and a woman was dead when help arrived, police told reporters.

Three children and five adults

Three of Darren McFadden’s family members were among 25 people shot inside a nightclub in Little Rock, Ark., early Saturday morning.

The Cowboys running back and Arkansas product rushed to the scene at Power Ultra Lounge, but was seen being told to retreat by police.

Out of concern for all of the people affected by this horrible tragedy, I went down to the scene to check on my relatives and to offer any help I could.
