Gunman disguised himself, but mass shooting at New Mexico school cut short, police say – TwinCities.com

By RUSSELL CONTRERAS

AZTEC, N.M. (AP) — A 21-year-old gunman who disguised himself as a student to get into a New Mexico high school where he killed two students had caught the attention of U.S. investigators more than a year ago, authorities said Friday.

William Atchison, a former student at small-town Aztec High School, had legally purchased a handgun at a local store a month ago and planned the attack, authorities said. He left a message on a thumb drive found on his body that detailed his plan to wait until the students got off buses and made their way to class.

He mingled with students, then walked into school with them and went into a second-floor bathroom to “gear up.” Atchison’s plan was to shoot up a classroom and then kill himself.

“Work sucks, school sucks, life sucks. I just want out of this (expletive),” he wrote.

More lives could have been lost had

Spree killer agreed he deserved death, calling himself ‘a monster indeed’ – Belleville News

The spree killer caught in Granite City after eight murders agreed with the families of his victims that he deserved the death penalty, calling himself a monster.

Nicholas Sheley, 38, was convicted of six murders in Illinois and pleaded guilty earlier this month to two more in Missouri, bringing to an end a series of trials stemming from his killing spree in June 2008. Throughout his trials, Sheley had not spoken publicly.

But on Oct. 4, during his sentencing for the murders of Tom and Jill Estes, Sheley read a 20-minute statement during which he dropped to his knees to apologize for the murders, wept and begged for forgiveness.

On Monday, a 14-page handwritten copy of Sheley’s apology arrived in the mail at Sauk Valley Media, a newspaper in Whiteside County, near where his killing spree began. The newspaper said no address or explanation accompanied the

Accused spree killer sobs for himself

George Brinkman is now residing in Nowheresville.

Never heard of it? It’s where the loopy, the luckless and life’s other losers make their home.

Today, George Brinkman is mayor.

Single mom Suzanne Taylor, 45, a high school friend, took pity on Brinkman, helping him out, feeding him dinner, letting him crash on the couch.

Being neighbourly and kind.

Cops, friends and family say that wasn’t enough for Brinkman.

“Suzy thought he was actually really a friend. We had meals together, he spent holidays here, I mean, he was a friend, so I don’t know what made him so angry,” Marcia Taylor told Fox News.

Taylor’s brother Ken said his sister’s many small kindnesses were tragically misinterpreted.

“He always wanted more from my sister, and she was just trying to be nice to him,” Ken Taylor told the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Like a lovestruck teen, Brinkman liked Suzanne Taylor’s comments and photos on social media. Once he called her “queen.”

UPS worker kills three colleagues in San Francisco, turns gun on himself

SAN FRANCISCO A UPS driver opened fire with a handgun inside a United Parcel Service Inc (UPS.N) delivery center in San Francisco on Wednesday, killing three co-workers before fatally shooting himself as police closed in, authorities and company officials said.

Two people wounded by gunfire were taken to a hospital. Five other people suffered less serious injuries in a frantic exit from the building, San Francisco police said.

The gunshot victims, like the killer, all were UPS drivers, and the attack unfolded as the workers gathered for their daily morning meeting before starting their delivery rounds, said Steve Gaut, head of investor relations at UPS.

Authorities did not immediately identify the suspect or the victims.

Assistant San Francisco Police Chief Toney Chaplin said the gunman shot himself in the head as he was confronted by officers swarming

Relative of mass shooting victim a possible danger to himself

An employee with the Aurora, Colo., District Attorney’s office called local police this week to report concerns she had about a relative of one of the victims in the 2012 movie theater mass shooting, Athens-Clarke County police said.

The employee said she first met the man, who lived in an Athens homeless camp, after he moved to Colorado to be with his family members in their time of grief, according to police.

In a Tuesday phone conversation with the DA’s employee, the man reportedly mentioned being off of medications for more than a year and threatened to go to a police station to have officers there shoot him, according to police.

The case was referred to a member of the Athens-Clarke County police mental health unit.
