A Las Vegas Hospital Is Waiving Medical Costs for Mass Shooting Victims

After the October 1 mass shooting at the Route 91 Harvest music festival left approximately 500 people injured, Las Vegas hospitals almost looked like “a war zone,” one on-call doctor told NPR. The wounds caused by both gunshots and shrapnel left facilities rushing to treat the onslaught of victims, whether or not they had insurance.

But despite the serious and expensive procedures they required, patients at one area hospital will see one potential burden lifted from their shoulders. Dignity Health-St. Rose Dominican told the Las Vegas Sun yesterday that victims who received care at their facilities won’t have to pay out of pocket for their treatments.

A man accused of killing four people and wounding a fifth in a 2010 Georgia workplace mass shooting has been involuntarily committed to a prison psychiatric hospital after doctors said he has refused to take anti-psychotic medications.

Jesse James Warren, of Temple, Georgia, opened fire at a Penske truck-leasing facility in Kennesaw on Jan. 12, 2010, Cobb County District Attorney Vic Reynolds said in a news release Tuesday. Three men were killed the day of the shooting, while a fourth succumbed to his injuries three years later. Another person was injured but survived the attack, which occurred about 20 miles northwest of Atlanta.

Investigators described Warren, 67, as a disgruntled ex-employee.

Rep. Steve Scalise, wounded in Virginia mass shooting, released from hospital


WASHINGTON D.C. — Rep. Steve Scalise, who suffered a life-threatening gunshot wound in the shooting in Alexandria, Virginia in June, has been released from the hospital, a FOX News report says.

Scalise, the third-ranking member of House Republican leadership, underwent numerous surgeries and spent several days in intensive care after suffering a gunshot wound to his hip in the shooting.

The furious attack by the doctor — identified by the police as Henry Bello, 45 — sent workers at the hospital, Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center, diving behind desks and doors as gunshots and smoke filled the hallways of a place devoted to healing. Bronx Hospital Shooting: Gunman Kills 1, Wounds 6, Turns Weapon on Self

A disgruntled former hospital worker armed with a rifle barged into the Bronx Lebanon Hospital Center Friday and opened fire, fatally shooting one doctor and wounding six other people before killing himself, New York City police officials said.

The suspect, identified by sources as 45-year-old Henry Bello, was found dead on the 17th floor of the facility, where he had tried to set himself on fire before he shot himself, according to NYPD Commissioner James O’Neill.
