Two Months After Nation’s Deadliest Mass Shooting, GOP House Passes ‘Dangerous’ Bill to Undermine Local Gun …

Gun control advocates denounced a House vote on Wednesday approving major legislation which would allow gun owners to carry licensed concealed weapons across state laws—effectively voiding gun control laws that prohibit hidden firearms in certain states.

The House passed the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2017 in a 231-198 vote. The Los Angeles Times editorial board wrote that the law is “clearly aimed at undermining gun control efforts nationally,” while the National Rifle Association (NRA) called the measure its “highest legislative priority” for the year.

Kristen Rand, Legislative Director of the Violence Policy Center, said after the bill passed, “Today’s winners are the NRA and the gun industry, the losers are public safety and law enforcement. If this bill become law, the body count of innocent victims killed by concealed carry permit holders will only rise.”

“Just two months after the deadliest mass shooting in American history, we should

Tips for church leaders on how to deal with a mass shooting at a house of worship

At a recent training session for church leaders on how to deal with a mass gunman at a place of worship, experts at the Carroll County’s Sheriff’s Office in Maryland offered these tips:

• Organize a volunteer security team among parishioners. Ideally, the team would include people with a variety of experience in law enforcement, military, logistics and medical backgrounds to help come up with a safety and security plan.

• Install a security camera system.

• Give ushers radios and have them serve as watchdogs outside the church before services start.

• In older facilities, check that cellphones work in basements. Many older churches with stone walls don’t get good reception. Obtain amplifiers or other equipment to help make sure there are no dead zones for when emergency responders are trying to

White House Calls Out Las Vegas Professor for Saying After Mass Shooting That Trump’s Election Incited Violence

The White House says a University of Nevada-Las Vegas assistant professor should be “ashamed of herself” for telling her students four days after the Las Vegas mass shooting that “people will die” because of President Donald Trump’s election.

Tessa Winkelmann told her history class that she predicted Trump’s election would lead to death. Her comments came after Stephen Paddock killed 58 people and injured hundreds on the Las Vegas Strip, located minutes away from the university campus.

“I don’t know that these events would have inevitably happened whether or not he got elected, but he has rhetorical powers every president has to encourage or to discourage [violence],” Winkelmann said to her class on Thursday in a video obtained by the Las Vegas-Review Journal.

Winkelmann did not explicitly mention the Las Vegas shooting in the video, but she referred to

Donald Trump invites mass murderer to the White House for a nice talk

When it comes to holding onto a pretense of democracy while running a blood-soaked autocratic state in which opponents shake in fear, Duterte is at the top of the game. His “drug squads” have targeted people who dare to speak against Dutert’s policies, he has subverted federal and local police forces to carry out a platform of harassment and simple murder, and even the most visible opponents are far from safe.

While Duterte claims all the victims were drug dealers, the thousands of vigilante murders include opponents of Duterte and the case against the Phillipines’ president includes charges of planting evidence, paid assassins, and turning police into death squads. Duterte’s party has enough power in the congress to stop any investigation, and a simple solution to any official or politician causing too much trouble—accuse them of drug crimes and make them next on the list.

There have been few investigations

Deputies find gun, ammo at house of girl reportedly plotting mass shooting at school

THURMONT, MD (AP) — Police in Maryland say a student accused of meticulously planning a mass shooting at her high school has been formally charged.

The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office says in a news release that 18-year-old Nicole Cevario of Thurmont was served with arrest warrants Friday. She is being held without bond.

Police last week had identified the woman as Nichole Cevario, but corrected the spelling of her first name on Friday.

She is charged with two felonies involving a destructive device.

Deputies say they found a shotgun, ammunition and bomb-making materials including nails and fireworks at Cevario’s home on March 23. Law enforcers had gone there after Cevario’s father reported he found evidence of the alleged plot.
