Las Vegas police shift timeline again in concert massacre

LAS VEGAS — Nearly two weeks after the deadliest shooting in modern U.S. history, authorities are still sorting out the timeline of events before a high-stakes video poker player who killed 58 people from his high-rise hotel room in Las Vegas.

What drove Stephen Paddock to open fire on the country music festival? Police and the FBI say they’re still at a loss to explain his motive.

Why did Paddock stop firing into the concert? Authorities do not know, but police apparently had not reached his Mandalay Bay hotel room by that point.

When did he fire his first shots in his hotel room? Las Vegas police released new information about the case Friday after a week that has seen the shooting timeline change almost daily.

Las Vegas police explain why they didn’t take on mass killer Stephen Paddock sooner – but questions remain

Las Vegas cops didn’t find Stephen Paddock’s room until he’d already ended his mass shooting – even though a security guard was waiting outside injured.

Police are facing difficult questions about why it took at least 25 minutes to locate the killer, and then another 45 minutes before to storm his hotel suite.

Sheriff Joe Lombardo made the bombshell admission on Monday that security officer Jesus Campos was in fact Paddock’s first victim.

Previously, police had said he was the hero who disturbed the killer around 15 minutes after the shooting began and brought it to an end.

But now it’s emerged that the chaos at the Mandalay Bay began when Mr Campos went to investigate a stairwell door which was adjacent to Paddock’s hotel room.

MGM Resorts International on Tuesday disputed Clark County Sheriff Joe Lombardo’s revised timeline of the Oct. 1 mass shooting on the Strip.

But during an extensive Tuesday interview with the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the sheriff stood by the revised timeline, then clarified it “could change even more.”

“This remains an ongoing investigation with a lot of moving parts,” MGM Resorts spokeswoman Debra DeShong said in the statement, released late Tuesday. “As evidenced by law enforcement briefings over the past week, many facts are still unverified and continue to change as

Frustrated Las Vegas police ask for public’s help in mass shooting

After five days of scouring the life of Las Vegas gunman Stephen Paddock and chasing 1,000 leads, investigators confessed Friday they still don’t know what drove him to mass murder, and they announced plans to put up billboards appealing for the public’s help.

Investigators have examined Paddock’s politics, his finances, any possible radicalization and his social behavior — typical investigative avenues that have helped uncover the motive in past shootings.

“We still do not have a clear motive or reason why,” Clark County Undersheriff Kevin McMahill said. “We have looked at literally everything.”

The FBI announced that billboards would go up around the city asking anyone with information to phone 800-CALL-FBI.

“If you know something, say something,” said Aaron Rouse, agent in charge of the Las Vegas FBI office. “We will not stop until we have the truth.”

An open door a few rooms away from Paddock’s suite set off an alarm that

Police believe Las Vegas spree killer Stephen Paddock planned more attacks

The gunman who killed 58 people in Las Vegas on Sunday planned to commit further atrocities, including car bombings, and may have scouted other music festivals, evidence suggests.

The weekend before Stephen Paddock attacked the Route 91 Harvest country music festival he had rented a flat six miles away in a high-rise building overlooking the Life Is Beautiful music festival, where Gorillaz, Lorde, and Chance the Rapper were among the featured acts.

A memorial has been created on Las Vegas Boulevard about a mile from the scene of Sunday’s mass shootingNICK OTTO/REX

In early August he had a room in Chicago in a hotel across the street from the park where the Lollapalooza music festival was taking place, with Arcade Fire as one of the headliners. Barack Obama’s daughter Malia was among the 100,000 who attended.

Sunday’s massacre stopped only after an unarmed hotel guard…

Stephen Paddock: ‘Secret life’ of mass murderer has left police …

Las Vegas gunman Stephen Paddock led a secret life which has left police struggling to find a motive for the mass shooting by a man they described simply as “disturbed and dangerous”.

Hundreds of officers have spent days trying to build a profile of the high-stakes gambler wh, over a period of decades, built up a massive arsenal of weapons before the high-rise massacre.

They said he had “evaluated” every part of the attack which they found “troubling”, before he opened fire on revellers at a concert on Sunday, leaving 58 dead and some 500 injured.

But as they pore over his life for clues, they have struggled to get beyond the superficial image of a man who had no known criminal record.

Those closest to him have failed to give police any insight into his mindset– with his girlfriend Marilou Danley calling him a “kind, caring, quiet man”.

His brother Eric Paddock also appeared to be of no help
