Report: Las Vegas mass shooting meticulously planned, but motive remains elusive – WGRZ

PHOENIX — Las Vegas shooter Stephen Paddock’s deadly October rampage was meticulously planned, and he scouted other possible targets nationwide before killing 58 concertgoers. But after four months of investigation, his motive remains a mystery.

Those are key takeaways in a preliminary report by Las Vegas Metropolitan Police that describes details of the Oct. 1 mass murder in chronological detail, with photographs and a list of victims.

Paddock, a 64-year-old accountant, gambler and gun collector, carried out his assault from a pair of 32nd-floor rooms at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, which overlooked an open-air concert venue known as Las Vegas Village.

About 22,000 people were enjoying a final performance at the Route 91 Music Festival when Paddock began spraying them with bullets, using so-called “bump stocks” that legally transform semi-automatic rifles into rapid-fire weapons.

Charles Manson’s grandson renews effort to claim remains of mass murderer

The grandson of Charles Manson has filed court papers seeking to obtain the remains of the late mass murderer from the Kern County coroner.

Jason L. Freeman’s Los Angeles Superior Court petition was filed Friday, four days after Judge David Cowan ruled that the appropriate court papers seeking release of Manson’s remains had not been filed. A hearing on Freeman’s petition is scheduled for Jan. 26 before Judge Clifford Klein.

“As kin I am entitled to the remains of the decedent,” Freeman stated in court papers.

Klein also will decide whether the Manson probate proceedings should take place in Los Angeles County, where Manson once lived; in Kings County, where he was imprisoned before his death; or in Kern County, where he died.

Charles Manson’s Pen Pal Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop Fighting for the Mass Murderer’s Remains

While Charles Manson‘s corpse remains on ice in a California morgue, the battle over his body continues. According to legal documents obtained by Radar Online, the sociopath’s pen pal, Michael Channels, insists he’s the beneficiary of Manson’s estate — and thus deserves his remains. On Jan. 8, Channels appeared before a judge during a hearing at the Superior Court of California in Los Angeles to continue his fight.

Unfortunately for Channels, he isn’t the only one vying for his body. In fact, as many as five people are in the running. According to the Los Angeles Times, the coroner is worried that Manson’s corpse could be placed in the wrong hands.

Judge aims to referee fight over Charles Manson’s remains

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The fight over the estate and body of apocalyptic cult leader Charles Manson has fragmented into at least three competing camps that could cash in on songs he wrote that were used by The Beach Boys and Guns N’ Roses.

A Los Angeles judge on Monday will begin trying to sort out at least two conflicting wills and claims to his estate by a purported son, grandson and pen pal.

At stake are commercial rights to the mass murderer’s name, image and mementos that can fetch thousands of dollars from so-called murderabilia collectors.

Manson died at age 83 in November nearly a half-century after he orchestrated the 1969 killings of pregnant actress Sharon Tate and eight other people.

Two people hold wills they claim Manson signed, though a friend says Manson left no will.

Las Vegas shooting victim out of neural intensive care, remains at Johns Hopkins, family says

A former Anne Arundel County resident who was injured in the mass shooting at a concert in Las Vegas earlier this month has moved out of neural intensive care, according to a post on a GoFundMe page where her family is raising money for her care.

Tina Frost, 27, an Anne Arundel High School graduate from Crofton, has emerged from a coma after being shot in the head during the Route 91 Harvest festival, and has since traveled to Baltimore, where she is now being treated at Johns Hopkins Hospital, according to another update.

The online fundraiser has raised nearly $589,000 for her treatment and recovery costs as of Tuesday.

“Our Tina marathon continues,” wrote Pam Ostiguy Clark, a family friend who operates the GoFundMe page. “[S]he has just conquered another round of fevers and an elevated heart rate that scared Team Tina. But once

35 years later, mass murderer George Banks remains on death row – Wilkes Barre Times

The first call was chilling enough: Two lay shot on a Wilkes-Barre street.

But as Robert Gillespie headed to the scene where George Emil Banks began his massacre 35 years ago this week, the scope of the situation began to mount as the bodies piled up. Gillespie was on Interstate 81 when the next call from a detective informed him of a second crime scene, in Jenkins Township.

Four shot dead.

When Gillespie arrived in Wilkes-Barre, he learned that not only were the two there shot outside a home on Schoolhouse Lane — one fatally — but eight more bullet-riddled bodies were inside.

Four were children. The two youngest were 1.

Decades later, Gillespie can still see them.

“You never forget seeing a child that has been brutally murdered,” said Gillespie, the former Luzerne County district attorney who prosecuted Banks.

Thirty-five years later, Gillespie and Al Flora Jr., one of the attorneys Gillespie battled in the courtroom
