Residents express safety concerns following Colerain Twp. mass shooting

Neighbors in Colerain Township went to police and township trustees Tuesday night to talk about fears after this weekend’s mass shooting.

They are worried the shooting that happened during a gender reveal party that killed one and injured many was a warning of what’s to come.

People in the township made it clear that they want more to be done.

A crowded Colerain Township meeting of the trustees was unlike any other in recent months.

This time, death, violence and fear were on people’s minds.

“It’s getting worse and I’m afraid that what happened on Capstan, it’s going to happen in other neighborhoods, that’s just the tip of the iceberg,” Bonita Sergent said.

Sergent was one of several people at the well-attended meeting who asked for more officers and patrols.

“There are inadequate resources to protect the neighborhoods and to enforce the law so that people don’t get hurt

Some residents in the Southside neighborhood of Fort Worth are on edge as the search for those responsible for a Friday night mass shooting continues.

Ramsez Hall, 30, and Shemeka Rodriguez, 32, were killed and five others were wounded in the shooting on East Davis Avenue.

One witness reports hearing an estimated 80 shots fired and neighbors said at least six homes were hit with bullets.

Candles, balloons and stuffed animals marked the spot Monday where violence rocked Fort Worth.

“While we are doing the memorials let’s rally against violence,” T.J. Ragster said.

“This is a wake-up call, not only for this area, but for Tarrant County,” Shirley Johnson said.

Johnson knows the cost of violence firsthand. Her 14-year-old son was shot and killed in Fort Worth in 1996.

“Every day I woke up I was angry. I was angry at the world,” she said. “You don’t just wake

Recent deadly violence in Chicago’s Brighton Park neighborhood prompted action Wednesday by residents and clergy who want to make that area safer.

A peace march and Mass were held Wednesday evening. The march came at a time when more people than ever are living in fear in Brighton Park after 10 people were shot, two fatally, on Sunday.

Wednesday night, the community sought renewal in the rain by walking together through a neighborhood drenched in violence.

“We’re hoping people realize that fear doesn’t have the last word, that death doesn’t have the last word. We’re a community who professes a faith,” said Juan Miguel Alvarez, peace marcher.

At an earlier church service there was a plea for change and prayers for those on both sides of the gun.

“We want to pray for the victims, and we also want to pray for the victimizers,” said Father Manuel Dorantes.

South Side residents are taking a stand against violence after a mass shooting in the Chatham neighborhood Wednesday night.

FOX 32 NEWS – South Side residents are taking a stand against violence after a mass shooting in the Chatham neighborhood Wednesday night.

Seven people were shot, including a 12-year-old.

The violence that plagues the city is something the residents know all too well, and they’re standing together to say it won’t be tolerated any more.

‘Operation Wake Up’ often comes to scenes after shootings and tragedies to bring people out to take their neighborhoods back.

On Wednesday night, a group of people came to hold a vigil for Jamayah Fields, who was gunned down in a different neighborhood earlier this week.

Chicago police say a gunman pulled up and opened fire into the crowd, hitting four women, two teenage

Police in French Quarter, residents discuss crime fighting strategy after mass shooting

NEW ORLEANS —

Police working to protect New Orleans’ biggest tourism corridor met Tuesday to discuss strategy after a mass shooting on Bourbon Street killed one man and wounded nine other people.

Almost three full days since Sunday’s shooting, New Orleans police have made no arrests, but said homicide detectives are following leads.

Ever since another high-profile shooting on Bourbon Street, Louisiana State Police have had a very visible presence in the French Quarter in recent years. While residents agree troopers have made things safer, they say more needs to be done.

“What concerns me is they keep happening, and we need a plan to stop them from happening,” said Bob Simms who lives two blocks off Bourbon St.

Twice since June 2014, the busy destination has been the scene of a mass shootings.

“We need to address the issues of the past, and not have it happen again,” said
