Judge unseals search warrants in mass shooting in Las Vegas

A federal judge Friday unsealed more than 300 pages of search warrants related to the mass shooting in Las Vegas that killed 58 people and wounded hundreds, but the documents do little to reveal what prompted the attack. Instead, they demonstrate how authorities continue to seek answers to many questions surrounding the actions and motive of gunman Stephen Paddock.

The search warrants covered electronic accounts of Paddock and his girlfriend, Marilou Danley. They had been sealed for months, but lawyers for several media companies, including the Los Angeles Times, argued for the release of the information.

One warrant for Paddock’s hotel room resulted in the recovery of three cellphones. Two were unlocked, but “neither contained significant information that allowed investigators to determine the full scope of Stephen Paddock’s planning and preparation for the attack.”

The third phone, however, was unable to be unlocked.

Pathologists to Search Stephen Paddock’s Brain for Clues to Mass Shooting

But even if scientists find clear evidence in Paddock’s brain of a neurodegenerative disease like Alzheimer’s or a brain injury like chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), will that help to explain why a reclusive gambler with no criminal record or extremist ties would open fire on a crowd of innocent people?

Dr. Clayton Wiley is a professor of pathology and director of neuropathology at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Although he’s not involved in Paddock’s case, he regularly conducts brain autopsies for both academic research and for the Pittsburgh

Brother of Las Vegas mass killer helping investigators in search for motive

The brother of a man who killed dozens of people at a Las Vegas country music festival has arrived in Nevada to help investigators work out the gunman’s motives and to retrieve the body.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reported that Eric Paddock arrived in town late on Saturday for hours of interviews with FBI agents, a police detective, a profiler and a psychologist.

Stephen Paddock opened fire on October 1 from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay casino-hotel, killing 58 people and wounding hundreds.

Authorities so far have struggled to find a motive.

Eric Paddock of Florida said he wants to help investigators get into his brother’s mindset.

He also told the newspaper that he will retrieve his brother’s body and have it cremated.

Clearmountain says she was sitting at the Union Metro Bus Stop Friday night around 9 p.m. When gunfire erupted she felt like a sitting duck.

“I braced myself for impact,” she said.

Clearmountain wondered if she was about to die.

“Were we being picked off because you don’t know what kind of situation that is. if you have a mass killer we just didn’t know,” she said.

In the end,
