Sheriff: 69-year-old man planned mass shooting at Jacksonville’s Islamic center

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 69-year-old man whose East Arlington home was raided Friday night was planning a mass shooting of the Islamic Center of Northeast Florida, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and FBI announced Monday.

Sheriff Mike Williams said Bernandino Bolatete’s plan came to law enforcement’s attention from a tip in October. An undercover officer contacted him and they met on several occasions at local gun ranges. Williams said Bolatete confirmed to the undercover detective in secretly recorded conversations that he hated Muslims and outlined his idea to carry out a mass shooting.

“The investigation confirmed the suspect was planning on

Neighbors Called Sheriff 21 Times To Complain About Tehama Mass Killer

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Sheriff’s deputies responded 21 times in the last year to calls involving a Rancho Tehama Reserve man who had been feuding with his neighbors before he committed a shooting rampage last week, killing five people and wounding at least eight others.

The information released Tuesday in response to a public records request details a quickly escalating feud between gunman Kevin Neal and his neighbors in the tiny rural neighborhood of Rancho Tehama Reserve.

Neal’s neighbors, including two of the people killed in the shooting rampage, had called the sheriff’s department at least six times to report that Neal had been firing a gun, sometimes at their homes and cars.

Records show seven calls were initiated by Neal and his wife, Barbara Glisan, often reporting foul odors and neighbors possibly cooking methamphetamine.

Neal screamed out loud that he was going to kill neighbor Danny Elliott and then go to the elementary

Las Vegas Sheriff Says Gunman of Mass Shooting Had Been Losing Money

A Las Vegas sheriff says the man who killed 58 people at a country music festival in the city last month had lost a significant amount of money in the two years before the shooting and had “bouts of depression.”

Clark County Sheriff Joe Lombardo told Las Vegas news station KLAS-TV that the loss of money may have been a “determining factor” in why gunman Stephen Paddock carried out the mass shooting.

Investigators have still not determined exactly what led Paddock to open fire at a country music festival on Oct. 1 from his high-rise suite. Paddock fatally shot himself after the mass shooting, which also left more than 500 people wounded.

“Since September 2015, he’s lost a significant amount of wealth, and I think that might have been a determining factor on what he was determined to do,” Lombardo said in the interview.

He described Paddock as a narcissist who may

Las Vegas sheriff: Mass killer led a ‘secret life’ before attack

Lawyer: Gunman’s girlfriend knew nothing of Las Vegas plot

‘Bombshell: Women and Terror’ author Mia Bloom provides insight on ‘The Story.’

The Las Vegas gunman behind the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history spent decades stockpiling guns and living a “secret life” that investigators may never be able to fully understand, police say.

Clark County, Nev., Sheriff Joseph Lombardo said Wednesday that it was only logical to “make the assumption” that Stephen Paddock had “some help at some point” in pulling off Sunday’s massacre.

As evidence, Lombardo

Sheriff’s Misconduct May Spare Mass Murderer’s Life – Gears Of Biz

SANTA ANA, Calif. (CN) — A state judge will decide next week whether the worst mass murderer in the history of Orange County, California, must face the death penalty or can avoid it because of misconduct by the sheriff.

Scott DeKraai murdered his ex-wife and seven others at a Seal Beach hair salon in October 2011. He confessed almost immediately and pleaded guilty to murder in May 2014.

For the past three months, Orange County Superior Court Judge Thomas Goethals has been considering whether he should bar the death penalty in the case because the sheriff’s department violated DeKraai’s rights by intentionally and repeatedly hiding information about a secret program to use jailhouse informants against criminal defendants — including DeKraai.

The lead defense attorney, Assistant Public Defender Scott Sanders, argued Thursday that the sheriff’s department

OC Sheriff Testifies About Jailhouse Informants in Seal Beach Salon …

Orange County Sheriff Sandra Hutchens, testifying Wednesday in an evidentiary hearing in the death penalty case against the worst mass killer in the county’s history, said her department has not engaged in a conspiracy to use jailhouse informants in illegal ways.

Hutchens’ testimony came in the third round of evidentiary hearings to determine if Scott Dekraai — who pleaded guilty to eight murders and one attempted murder at a Seal Beach beauty salon — can get a fair shake in the penalty phase.

Orange County Superior Court Judge Thomas Goethals has said he may dismiss the death penalty as an option in the case depending on the evidence produced in this latest round of hearings. Dekraai’s attorney, Assistant Public Defender Scott Sanders, showed the sheriff memos from Deputy William Grover, one of the central figures in two prior rounds of evidentiary hearings.

In one email, Grover asks colleagues about
