Was Reno high-rise gunman mimicking Las Vegas shooter 2 months ago?

The latest information on the shooting at The Montage in Reno

RENO, Nev. — A gunman shooting from an eighth-floor condo rained bullets on downtown Reno but died after a SWAT team raided his unit, police said Wednesday.

The incident — potentially inspired by Stephen Paddock’s 32nd-floor attack on ground-level concertgoers Oct. 1 at the Route 91 Harvest music festival in Las Vegas — began late Tuesday when the Reno shooter took a woman hostage. She later was rescued without injury, and officials have not released her

Police stop suspect after active shooter fears in Reno

Cops stopped a gunman in downtown Reno on Tuesday, after announcing they were hunting an active shooter and sparking fears of another Las Vegas-style attack.

Reno police tweeted at 7:50 p.m. PST that they were dealing with a “possible active shooter” and urged everyone to steer clear of the area.

SWAT cops later stormed the luxury apartment tower where the shooter was holed up and he was killed, officials said. It wasn’t immediately clear if he was killed by police or committed suicide. No one else was hurt, cops said.

Las Vegas resident Mike Pavicich, in Reno for business, was walking in downtown when he heard shots – and immediately thought of last month’s mass shooting that killed 58.

“When you heard it’s coming from above it reminds you of the guy shooting from Mandalay Bay … it’s scary you know? This is the same kind of town,” Pavicich told the Reno

How Media Obsession With Body Counts Could Actually Motivate the Next Mass Shooter

Mother Jones illustration

The day after the gun massacre at the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, Texas, filmmaker Michael Moore—whose 2002 documentary “Bowling for Columbine” tackled that watershed mass shooting—took note of a particular fact. “As of yesterday,” he told his millions of Twitter followers, “Columbine is no longer one of the 10 worst mass shootings in US history.”

CNN had already published the full score card: “2 of the 5 deadliest mass shootings in modern US history happened in the last 35 days,” announced the headline. The CNN list of “the 10 deadliest single-day mass shootings in modern US history” was subdivided by tallies of the dead.

The Texas attack came just a month after the one at a country music festival on the Las Vegas Strip—widely declared “the worst mass shooting in modern US history,” which was

California Shooter Kevin Neal Hid His Wife’s Dead Body Under Floor Before Mass Shooting

California gunman Kevin Jansen Neal killed his wife and hid her body under the floor before killing four more people on a shooting spree Tuesday using a gun that he should not have been able to acquire, authorities said Wednesday.

Authorities found Neal’s wife’s body inside a hole in the floor of their Rancho Tehama home. Neal, 43, killed his wife Monday before the rampage the following day that ranged across the community and targeted a school, where two children were wounded.

Officers found a semi-automatic rifle and two handguns with Neal on Tuesday. At a press conference Wednesday, police said that Neal’s wife got a restraining order against him in February that should have kept him from owning guns. They also provided details about the grisly under-floor find.

“There was a hole cut in the floor … we’re confident that he

Here’s the chilling thing the Texas church shooter said about a racist mass murderer

More of the past history of the Texas church shooter’s life is coming to light since the massacre that took 26 lives, and the latest is something chilling he said about Dylann Roof, the racist mass murderer who also targeted a church.

What did he say?

The Texas shooter told a friend and former Air Force colleague that he admired Dylann Roof after the horrific shooting he committed in Charleston, South Carolina.

Jessika Edwards says she worked with the shooter at Holloman Air Force Base from 2010 to 2012 in New Mexico. She told CNN that he reached out to her for a job reference on Facebook, but she grew uncomfortable with their interactions, especially about the killer Roof.

“He would say ‘isn’t it cool? Did you watch the news?’” Edwards told CNN. “He would say he wished he had the nerve to do it, but all he would be

A mass shooter’s name is part of the story; concealing it is silly and self-important

As anyone who has taken a high school journalism class knows, one of the 5 Ws that reporters should be careful to include in the first paragraph of a news story is “who.” Usually that means providing the name of the newsmaker, whether his actions are praiseworthy or vile.

But CNN’s Anderson Cooper won’t tell his viewers the name of the man who shot up a church in Sutherland Springs, Texas, on Sunday, killing 26 people. (His name was Devin Kelley, as readers of the Los Angeles Times know. Kelley’s name appeared in the first paragraph of this chilling profile by Jenny Jarvie.)

If you were watching CNN on Monday night you would have heard Cooper say this: “A short time ago, authorities spoke to reporters. They did not say the killer’s name nor will we.” And later on: “We don’t say the killer’s name. However, we do

What Can Doctors Learn from Studying Las Vegas Shooter’s Brain?

For weeks, investigators have pored over clues in the hopes of understanding why 64-year-old Stephen Paddock decided to open fire on thousands of concert goers in Las Vegas last month, killing 58 people.

But more than a month after the shooting, officials have given no indication that they know anything about Paddock’s motive.

This month, as part of the autopsy, Stanford University researchers are investigating if there is any sign of brain damage or disease in Paddock’s brain.

Damage or injury to certain areas of the brain can be associated with increased impulsiveness, lack of judgment, and other symptoms that can affect a person’s actions.

“Multiple forensic analyses will be performed on Paddock, including a neuropathological examination of brain tissue at the Stanford University Department of Pathology, which is one of the County Coroner’s contracted neuropathology laboratories,” Clark County Coroner John Fudenberg said in a statement sent to Healthline.

How brain damage affects
