Police run to cover at the scene of a shooting near the Mandalay Bay resort and casino on the Las Vegas Strip, Sunday, Oct. 1, 2017, in Las Vegas. Multiple victims were being transported to hospitals after a shooting late Sunday at a music festival on the Las Vegas Strip.

Nevada Attorney General Adam Laxalt announced today that his office is providing $600,000 to help pay for overtime accrued by Metro Police following the Oct. 1 mass shooting on the Las Vegas Strip.

The nontaxpayer funds are from an unrelated lawsuit settlement, officials said.

Gov. Brian Sandoval directed that release of the money be expedited so it is available to Metro within the next two weeks.

“Together with Gov. Sandoval, I am committed to assisting (Metro) to offset costs for heroic first responders in the wake of this horrific

One dead in mass shooting at Washington state high school

A young gunman opened fire at a public school near Spokane, Wash., on Wednesday morning, killing one student and wounding three others before being caught, according to reports.

All the victims were admitted to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center and Children’s Hospital in Spokane and were expected to survive, official said.

The dead student was a sophomore boy. The three wounded were all girls, witnesses at Freeman High School in Rockford told the Spokesman-Review newspaper.

The shooting reportedly happened in a hallway outside of a biology classroom.

“I was putting my backpack away and I heard a loud pop, and I turned around. He was walking around,” said freshman Elisa Vigil, 14, told the Spokane newspaper.

“He had his pistol. His face was completely passive. He shot someone in the head. I crouched down in the hall. I looked up and a girl screamed, ‘Help me, help me, help me.’ The hall was empty.

The Golden State Killer

Okay, so here’s a quick trivia question for you.  Who in our society receives marriage proposals from women who have never met them, get their faces plastered on t-shirts, appears on the covers of popular magazines, and has even appeared on trading cards, similar to baseball cards?  (If you were going to guess famous Hasidic Rabbis, you’d be wrong, although, there are “Famous Rabbi Trading Cards,” and I’m not making that up.)  The answer unfortunately is serial killers.  As a culture, Americans have what can only be described as a somewhat unhealthy obsession with serial killers.  Sadly, there are no shortage of choices for one to choose from when trying to find a serial killer who is right for you.

Suspected Kalamazoo mass-killer’s statements to Michigan State Police admissible at trial

KALAMAZOO, MICH. (WKZO-AM/FM) — Prosecutors will be allowed to use potentially incriminating and bizarre statements at the June murder trial of a southwest Michigan Uber driver accused of killing six people during a shooting spree.

Jason Dalton was interviewed twice in the 24 hours after eight people were gunned down across three Kalamazoo locations last February. The entirety of both interviews will not be admissible at trial, however.

Kalamazoo County Circuit Court Judge Alexander Lipsey ruled Thursday prosecutors can use all of Dalton’s interview with Michigan State Police and agreed to a partial suppression of statements made to Kalamazoo Public Safety.

The 46-year-old made claims of demonic possession during each interrogation, saying the rideshare company’s smartphone app took control of his vehicle and body, but those admissions came after refusals to speak to detectives.

Dalton’s attorney claimed his client’s constructional rights were violated last Thursday.

State AG To Seek Death Penalty For Mass Shooter Scott Dekraai

State Attorney General Xavier Becerra said Wednesday he will continue to seek the death penalty against mass murderer Scott Evans Dekraai, who shot and killed eight people in 2011 in the deadliest shooting in Orange County’s history.

“This tragic event has caused so much harm to far too many families,” said Becerra in a news release. “After weighing the evidence, considering the law and the responsibilities of my office, I have concluded that the appropriate course of action is to seek the death penalty in this case.”

The attorney general’s announcement comes just before a pretrial hearing on Thursday, part of the penalty phase of the Dekraai’s case that will determine whether he serves a life sentence or receives the death penalty.
