California Student Injured During Las Vegas Mass Shooting Files Lawsuit; Authorities Investigating Shooter’s Timeline

A California college student injured in the Las Vegas music festival massacre filed a lawsuit Wednesday against the hotel owners, the concert promoter and bump stock manufacturers, claiming they were all liable in the mass shooting.

The claims against MGM Resorts International, which owns both Mandalay Bay and the concert venue that hosted the festival, raise more questions about a timeline that has changed numerous times — and, according to Clark County Sheriff Joe Lombardo, could change again. The suit also questions why hotel staff didn’t notice gunman Stephen Paddock’s behavior in several instances.

Specifically, the lawsuit accuses MGM, of failing to respond in a timely manner to the “shooting of Mandalay Bay security officer Jesus Campos, who had gone to the 32nd floor to check on an alert from another guest room and who was shot six minutes prior to” the massacre beginning.

Student charged in alleged plot for mass shooting at Maryland …

THURMONT, MD (AP) — Police in Maryland say a student accused of meticulously planning a mass shooting at her high school has been formally charged.

The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office says in a news release that 18-year-old Nicole Cevario of Thurmont was served with arrest warrants Friday. She is being held without bond.

Police last week had identified the woman as Nichole Cevario, but corrected the spelling of her first name on Friday.

She is charged with two felonies involving a destructive device.

Deputies say they found a shotgun, ammunition and bomb-making materials including nails and fireworks at Cevario’s home on March 23. Law enforcers had gone there after Cevario’s father reported he found evidence of the alleged plot.

Hundreds remember UofL student killed in mass shooting

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – Hundreds attended a candlelight vigil Wednesday in honor of a University of Louisville student who died in a mass shooting at an art gallery.

Savannah Walker, 20, was killed when someone opened fire inside the Tim Faulkner Gallery on Sunday morning.

Every color, every race, every religion was brought together on the university’s campus Wednesday night.

“Savannah’s mark was the fact that it didn’t matter where you were from in town,” her father, Dean Walker, said. “We had the United Nations in our house.”

Grad student directs film about 911 call for attempted school shooting

Reed Van Dyk was writing a film about a mass shooting when he realized he didn’t know how a 911 dispatcher answered the phone.

Listening to a real 911 call during an attempted shooting at an Atlanta elementary school, however, gave him the inspiration for a different film.

“After hearing that phone call, I kept having to stop it because I was so overcome with feeling,” Van Dyk said. “I couldn’t put it down mentally until I tried to make a film about it.”

The graduate student in directing began adapting the call to his award-winning narrative short film “DeKalb Elementary” in fall 2015. On Feb. 11, the film won the Grand Prix award at the 39th International Short Film Festival in Clermont-Ferrand, France, and will be featured at the South by Southwest Film Festival in March.
