Las Vegas Gunman Interacted With Hotel Staff More Than 10 Times Before Mass Shooting

(LAS VEGAS) — The parent company of the Las Vegas hotel-casino where a gunman opened fire Oct. 1, causing the deadliest mass shooting in recent U.S. history, says hotel staff had more than 10 interactions with Stephen Paddock in the three days leading up to the massacre.

The Las Vegas Review Journal reports that a statement released by MGM Resorts International says the interactions between Paddock and Mandalay Bay employees, which included a room service delivery and a call with housekeeping on the day of the shooting, were “normal in nature.”

Police say Paddock shot at attendees of the Route 91 Harvest country music festival from the broken windows of his 32nd-floor suite that night, killing 58 people and injuring hundreds.

The 64-year-old Paddock killed himself just before authorities stormed his room.

Pandemics past: Seven times flu has become a mass killer

A hospital full of people with flu
When flu goes pandemic, it can be devastating

National Museum of Health and Medicine/SPL

Winter flu breaks out every year because small mutations in the flu virus let it dodge antibodies we made to protect us from the last flu we got. It isn’t totally different from that last flu, so we are partly immune, and the infection may be mild. But every now and then an influenza A virus breaks out carrying surface proteins that are very different. This “pandemic” flu spreads like wildfire regardless of the season – and often more, and younger, people die. Survivors do gain some immunity for next time, so the killer settles down and becomes regular seasonal flu, drifting along until the next pandemic flu surfaces.

Deaths: unknown

Chilling Reason Disney is Eliminating ‘Do Not Disturb’ Door Hangers is a Sign of the Times

Recently the Walt Disney World resort chain began to phase out those familiar “do not disturb” hotel door hangers that seem to have been around since forever. But the chilling reason this is being done seems to be a sign of the times in which we live.

According to reports, Disney has phased out the signs at its main hotels, The Polynesian, The Grand Floridian, The Contemporary and The Bay Lake Resort. It its place the hotelier has substituted a “room occupied” door hanger, AOL reported.

The new signs tell hotel staff that there is someone still in the room but does not stop staff from entering the room, as the “do not disturb” signs tended to do.

The reason for the switch, though, comes on the heels of the deadly shooting at the Mandalay Bay hotel in Las Vegas. Mass killer Stephen Paddock had left a “do not disturb” sign

Mass murderer convicted at ICC – The Manila Times Online

FR. SHAY CULLEN, SSC

IT was a spark of light from the darkness of human right violations, horrific war crimes, crimes against humanity, genocide, and ethnic cleansing that have caused the suffering, torture, starvation, and mass murder of thousands. That spark of light was the conviction and sentence to life imprisonment of Ratko Mladic, the former Bosnian Serb commander known as the “butcher of Bosnia,” by the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague, Netherlands, on November 22, 2017.

It came more than 20 years after the massacre at Srebrenica in the former Yugoslavia. When the verdict of conviction and sentence was read out, there was relief and satisfaction for the surviving relatives of more than 8,000 men and boys murdered on the orders of the then Gen. Ratko Mladic. They never forgot and pursued justice to

Neighbors Called Sheriff 21 Times To Complain About Tehama Mass Killer

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Sheriff’s deputies responded 21 times in the last year to calls involving a Rancho Tehama Reserve man who had been feuding with his neighbors before he committed a shooting rampage last week, killing five people and wounding at least eight others.

The information released Tuesday in response to a public records request details a quickly escalating feud between gunman Kevin Neal and his neighbors in the tiny rural neighborhood of Rancho Tehama Reserve.

Neal’s neighbors, including two of the people killed in the shooting rampage, had called the sheriff’s department at least six times to report that Neal had been firing a gun, sometimes at their homes and cars.

Records show seven calls were initiated by Neal and his wife, Barbara Glisan, often reporting foul odors and neighbors possibly cooking methamphetamine.

Neal screamed out loud that he was going to kill neighbor Danny Elliott and then go to the elementary

New York Times Editor To Court: Paper Didn’t Blame Sarah Palin For Mass Shooting

Attorneys for Sarah Palin and the New York Times put the newspaper’s editorial sausage-making process under examination today, as a Manhattan federal district court judge heard testimony about how, exactly, one particularly gristly bite came into being.

Insisting he did not intend to imply a “causal link” between the 2011 mass shooting that left Rep. Gabby Giffords of Arizona severely wounded and a notorious “crosshairs” map distributed by a Sarah Palin PAC, Times editorial page editor James Bennet took the court through an exhaustively detailed parsing of a recent editorial that the former VP candidate claims was defamatory.

Bennet, who wrote the most objectionable portions of the editorial being challenged by Palin’s lawsuit, said he in no way meant to suggest that shooter “was acting because of this map.”

The map, distributed by a Palin PAC prior to the 2011 Giffords shooting that left six people

Sarah Palin sues the New York Times for tying her PAC ad to mass shooting

Former vice presidential nominee and Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is accusing the New York Times of defamation over an editorial that linked one of her political action committee ads to the mass shooting that severely wounded then-Arizona Congresswoman Gabby Giffords.

In the lawsuit filed in Manhattan federal court Tuesday, Palin’s lawyers say the Times “violated the law and its own policies” when it accused her of inciting the 2011 attack that killed six people.

The lawsuit refers to a June editorial in the Times on the recent shooting of Louisiana Congressman Steve Scalise. The editorial later was corrected.

Palin is seeking damages to be determined by a jury.

A spokeswoman for the Times, Danielle Rhoades Ha, says the company hasn’t seen the lawsuit but will defend against any claim vigorously.
