Police ID 9 shot in Colerain Township mass shooting

COLERAIN TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WLWT) —Nine people were shot – one fatally – in a July shooting in Colerain Township. On Friday, more than a month after the mass shooting, police identified all nine of the victims.

The investigation into the July 8 shooting has been marred by controversy. False information has hindered the investigation, Colerain Township police said, and no arrests have been made.

A total of 14 shots were fired inside a Capstan Drive home during what was supposed to be a party to reveal the gender of a baby. The problem was, there was no baby, police said. The alleged mother-to-be, 21-year-old Cheyanne Willis, was not even pregnant, police said.

It still remains unclear why Willis claimed that she was pregnant. Willis was one of the nine people shot in July, and had previously claimed that her unborn child was killed as a result of the shooting.

New details emerge in Colerain Township mass shooting

Colerain Township police are offering new details about the mass shooting at a party Saturday night on Capstan Drive.

Nine people were shot, including children, and one person was killed during a gender-reveal party.

Documents show the gender-reveal party had started around 4 p.m., but most of the 30 or so guests had left and their friends and family had sat down to watch a movie.

Police say when the suspects walked in, they didn’t say anything or demand anything while unloading their weapons.

A total of 14 shots were fired inside the living room of the home. The latest police report says seven adults were injured, five female and two male. One juvenile was also shot.

Homeowner’s gun found in front yard after mass shooting in Colerain Township, police report says

COLERAIN TWP., Ohio – How did a gun from the “homeowner” where nine people were shot Saturday wind up in the front yard?

Did someone from the rented home pursue the fleeing shooters? Did one of the shooters drop it?

Police Chief Mark Denney told WCPO the gun was not loaded and there was no shootout. He said he thought the renter owns the gun.

WCPO asked Denney to elaborate after an abbreviated initial Incident Report released by Colerain police Wednesday raised more questions about the case.

The report, filed by Colerain patrol officer Kurt Magoteaux, says a pistol belonging to “the homeowner” was found in the front yard. The home is rented out by VineBrook Homes of Huber Heights, Ohio, according to the Hamilton County Auditor’s website. Who rented the house is unknown. No one at VineBrook answered the phone when WCPO called Wednesday afternoon.

The report says multiple people were “outside screaming

911 calls reveal chaos after mass shooting at Colerain Township gender reveal party

COLERAIN TOWNSHIP, Ohio — Screaming, crying and confusion: Calls to 911 reveal operators struggled to get crucial information from victims, witnesses and neighbors after a mass shooting left a woman and an unborn baby dead and eight others wounded.

Three children were among those injured, though their injuries aren’t considered life-threatening. One victim is in critical condition. Another said she was pregnant but lost her baby after she was shot in the leg.

All were at a gender reveal party, a kind of baby shower, at a home on Capstan Drive.

It’s hard to make out much from calls placed inside the home. Several people scream and sob. A baby or young child cries in the background.

A man simply told the operator, “There’s a whole lotta people here shot.”

“I just seen two people walk by,” he said. “I looked outside, next thing I know they just ran in and just started shooting.”
